काम – Work

Kaam (Work)

Chapter 1- Arjun vishaad yog

My goal for this year as far as reading is considered is to read the Bhagwad Geeta. I was inspired to read Bhagvad geeta as I was reading Shri Sai Satcharita. It’s believed that Bhagvad geeta can provides you answers to all the mystical and practical questions of life. As the name suggests it’s the song of God OR song from God.

Not sure what all I will explore and learn from this book or let me put it in a right way, not sure how mature is my mind to understand and absorb all that this book has to offer. However, I decided to pen my very basic thoughts and understandings as I read through the chapters of this book.

Bhagvad geeta has total 18 chapters and I just finished yesterday chapter 1 and its called Arjun Vishaad. The word vishaad means sorrow, sadness or here in this context I feel it’s the sadness arising from dilemma in Arjun’s mind hence Arjun’s vishaad yoga. The whole chapter is about Sanjay giving live commentary to King Dhritrashtra about battle yet to begin in Kurukshetra. This chapter is more about setting the stage for the actual bhagvad geeta learning as Arjun is sad and contemplating on his actions of entering in to war with his own relatives and friends. My interpretations are very raw as by no means I am a scholar but I just wanted to jot whatever I learnt from these chapters and my understanding and thoughts as a laymen that can help  people like me and even some young children. So here goes the learnings :

Chapter 1- Arjun vishaad yog

Hrishikesh- another name of Shri krishna, which means lord of mind and senses

Kapi Dhwaj – Another name of Arjun that means Monkey Bannered as Arjun’s chariot had flag bearing insignia of Lord Hanuman.

Paanchajanya- conch of Shri krishna

Anantavijay- conch of Yudhishthir,

DevaDutta – conch of Arjuna

Paundra – conch of Bheem

Sughosh – conch of Nakul

Manipushpak -conch of Sahadev

Gandeev- Arjun’s bow

My take away from chapter 1 came from story behind the shlok 20

The story teaches you to be humble and never boast / ego centric and revolves around Arjun and hanuman. Arjun in this shlok is addressed by another name, “Kapi Dhwaj,” which means “Monkey Bannered.” This name is due to the presence of the mighty Monkey God “Hanuman” on Arjun’s chariot. The story behind is that, once Arjun became very boastful of his archery skills . He said to Lord Krishna, “I do not understand why during Lord Rama’s time, the monkeys worked so hard to make a bridge from India to Lanka with heavy stones? If I was there, I would have made a bridge of arrows.” The Omniscient Lord asked him, “Alright, go ahead show me your bridge.”

Very skillfully Arjun showered thousands of arrows and made a huge bridge. Now, it was time to test it. Shree Krishna called upon great Hanuman for the job. As soon as Hanuman started walking on the bridge, it started crumbling under his feet. Arjun realized his folly; his bridge of arrows could not have upheld the weight of Lord Rama’s huge army. He asked for their forgiveness. Subsequently, Hanuman gave Arjun lessons on being humble and polite (not boastful). He also granted Arjun a boon that, during the great war, he would seat himself on Arjun’s chariot. Therefore, Arjun’s chariot flag carried the insignia of the great Hanuman.

Develop an attitude for Gratitude -LIFESTYLE tip

An Attitude for Gratitude

What better day to talk about #Gratitude than your BIRTHDAY !! Yes I celebrated my birthday recently  and as I sat down to pen my thoughts on journey so far, I realized  I am truly grateful to be blessed with this beautiful journey called “LIFE” and have realized that the new version of you (Released after you turn 40) is much- much better version of you. The bug fixes done on the  newer versions based on the previous versions glitch experience  brings out the best of you. Well I mean that the lessons you learn and how it improves you as a person is all based off your past experiences. You realize that with each passing year – you evolve as A more mature YOU, a more humble YOU, a more carefree YOU . Basically with every release You are a finer version of you. Think about it in a way that your every birthday is God’s way of releasing the newer version of you . It all depends on whether you want to install those new updates within you or not.

All those people with whom you have crossed path in the life so far , you stop categorizing them as good or bad, you realize all of them were there to provide the experiences so as you can grow and become a BETTER YOU. These experiences have made you the butterfly you are now coming out of your own cocoon.

So embrace each and every experience in your life, each and every person that you cross your path with in this life –  they are there as HIS (God’s) plan to help you grow , to turn you in to a beautiful butterfly.

Over this journey I have realized the importance of #Gratitude and how insufficiently we tap this concept which can actually bring tremendous positivity too. Appreciate people, places, experiences … specially people… let them know what you appreciate in them, remember we all are here in this world for a limited time so don’t wait until the time of the obituary(no this is not at all pessimistic view 🙂 ) to tell them what you loved and admired about them.

Get in to habit of appreciating , Leverage this attitude in your professional and personal life. Start appreciating generously and  I don’t mean false appreciation or being pretentious, When you speak from your heart it does touch other person so yes when you find something appreciative don’t hold back on conveying it. This includes people, places, experiences any and everything that you encounter.

If you consciously start putting it in to action, Before you know you will realize you are building a happier and more efficient team not to mention a team that is motivated. If you have such a team then do you think you even have to worry about the result??

You will be wondering how you can bring it in to action, there are many ways – most important in to make a conscious effort every single day and how about starting a tradition in home and work,

Have a gratitude jar at home where all the family members can put a note on what they feel thankful for and what a beautiful way to start the new year by reading them all with your loved ones. Similarly have it as a practice at work with your team on a regular cadence to share your appreciation/gratitude.

Open your heart and you will find abundance of love and positivity flowing your way… did I mention LAW OF NATURE !!!! What goes around comes around 🙂

Let’s keep embracing what life gives us with our chins up and smile on our lips and Gratitude in our heart. Let’s make it a habit and you will realize the ripple effect of having an attitude of Gratitude.

It hurts…..

IMG_2429Yes, I am a happy go lucky person. Yes, everything is going well in my life. Yes, I feel blessed with what I have in my life. Yes, you read it right ..yet few things hurt me.

I have felt hurt in the past few weeks with what is happening around me and this time I am not going to sit, watch, hear and sulk or just make it a casual discussion over the dinner table.I am going to voice my thoughts. I know my opinion or thoughts may not make a huge difference or may not be trending or may not get hits or likes (that is not the intention either) in the electronic world because I am not a celebrity and because I am not creating controversies, but I know the pain and agony that a common citizen like me can relate to ..I know the strength of common people and I believe in it and I know together we can make the difference. I know if you and me the common people, the majority (irrespective of the color of our skin) who share the same feelings and thoughts and don’t mind sharing them on our wall, together we can create a stir,  so here it is TO THE POWER OF A COMMON CITIZEN….

  1. It hurts…when the countries I love the most are going through tragic times.Yes , you can love two countries with equal passion and patriotism at the same time.
  2. It hurts…when a 6 year old who like any other kid goes to school on a regular school day and gets shot and the parents loose him forever.
  3. It hurts…when you come to know that the 6 year old was shot by a teenager. What kind of society we are giving to the next generation that they are so vulnerable to their surrounding.
  4. It hurts… to realize that somewhere we are doing something wrong , why our kids are not strong enough mentally, they can get bullied over the brands of shoes or clothes they are wearing.
  5. It hurts…when the soldiers of the country are dedicating and sacrificing their lives and the citizens of the country ,sit in a cozy room and argue about proof of their work.
  6. It hurts… when a soldier has to justify his/her job as not any other regular job, when celebrities or business keep their own personal interest above the interest of nation.
  7. It hurts…. when a country which is based on thousands of year old civilization is just projected by media as a country of snake charmers, potholes and slums.
  8. It hurts.…when a country is misinterpreted as a land of divorces, drinks  and drugs by the wrong projection of media.
  9. It hurts….. when so called intellectual people and countries try to over power others by belittling others.
  10. It hurts…. when people don’t value the life they are blessed with and the freedom that a country provides them.
  11. It hurts…when we just depend on others to bring the change in the country, society or government.

Let’s give a clean and healthy environment for the generations to come , a legacy that they can be proud of. Let’s be the change we want to see in the world. Let’s not watch the reactions happen let’s be the catalyst.

Let’s have no more HURTS !!!!
