Turning the dreams and imagination through the needlework in to beautiful embroidery, this beautiful form of embroidery comes from Kutch region of Gujarat (a state in western part of India). History of the Kutch Embroidery is traced to the 16th and 17th centuries when people migrated from the countries such as Afghanistan, Greece, Germany, Iran and Iraq to Gujarat. It is also said that folks were trained in this art form by the Muslim sufi saints of sindh region hence also known as Sindhi kadhai. There are six regionalized techniques of the embroidery – Soof, Kharek, Paako, Rabari, Jat and Mutwa. This saree in pure silk adornes Rabari embroidery that uses mirrors of different shapes and sizes along with a complex pattern of chain stitches. Of course the embroidery in the saree is sans mirrorwork.
